Casino-Kursaal de Montreux was officially opened on November 26, 1881. On December 4, 1971, the Casino tragically burnt down at the end of a Frank Zappa and the mothers concert.
A member of the music group 'Deep Purple' was in Montreux at the time of the casino fire.
Inspired by the flames, thick smoke and proximity to Lake Léman, he wrote the famous international hit "Smoke on the Water".
Reconstruction work began in 1973, the new casino was opened in spring 1975.
